“Do you know," Peter asked, "why swallows build in the eaves of houses? It is to listen to the stories.” ~ J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

"Poetry is not the most important thing in life...
I'd much rather lie in a hot bath reading Agatha Christie and sucking sweets."
                                              ~~~~~ Dylan Thomas
back when i worked at the local art museum
(i may have told you this before),
the curator was back from a long austin weekend,
telling tales of the nights and music
and stories told over drinks
and laughs with old friends,
when the artist-in-residence asked if he'd seen any good art,
visited any galleries.
god, no, he replied.
the words will wait.
it is almost the weekend.
  1. :) I am sneaking away for the weekend, even though I should be working. Sometimes, you just have to.
  2. Oh my goodness, yes and amen and love love love.
    I've been so disillusioned with the wider artistic community of late, and this is partly why. Art is great! Art is wonderful! But it isn't everything all the time. It's not the only thing. Besides, while a lot of my own creative work is driven from internal things - my heart - more of what makes it fun is being out in the world and doing other things, seeing other things, interacting with other people about things other than art.
    Dang. I just love this so much.
    1. i will admit to a pet peeve, though that's not really the right term - more of a what? huh?, and that's people who only read books that will "help" them. "how to" books. all very nice and everything, but when someone's list of top 10 books include 7 or 8 (or more) of how to paint, how to photograph, how to find yourself . . . well, i just want to take them by the hand and teach them to dance, or lay in the sun, or twirl under the moon. i want to hand them a copy of chocolat or little women. :)
  3. The purpose of life is to live it. Ya just can't do that without getting your feet wet and DOING something just for fun! Great post!
come. sit under the emma tree & let's talk. i have cookies . . .
