“Do you know," Peter asked, "why swallows build in the eaves of houses? It is to listen to the stories.” ~ J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

advent day 6: katie's white lights

this year the lights that once were blue are white, and standing under them
inside them
encircled
as they each night climb the spiral staircase all the way to the 3rd floor
is like standing atop a christmas cake all candlelit and full of wishes.

in the damp unfocused light of morning they hang like unopened blossoms
waiting for darkness,
dreaming.

  1. Oh what a terrific perspective of the lights. I love this. LOVE it. You look at things in a fantastic way and it speaks to my soul.

  2. Huh...I never thought of unlit lights as waiting for dreams. What a nice idea to ponder when I light the tree this evening. Thanks for that!

  4. I much prefer the warmth of white lights to the cold, sad cast of blue this time of year.

  5. Oh... now this really makes me feel as though I have come home. I remember those blue lights you spoke of a year or two ago. I really do feel sometimes like I know your neighborhood... I guess I have my own little version of it in my imagination that feels as familiar to me as my own hood. I love that.
