august break 5: and we had no air conditioning


car.
summer trip traveling turquoise
i feel swimming shorts soda pops
drive-ins
two-lane blacktops soft under the sun.
i see arizona here-we-come arms out the window
feet on the dash
midnight radio light my fire
truck stop breakfasts
laps full of maps.
i know stars sunsets saguaros sage
backseat sleeping
texas dreamsongs
free ice flat tires cheap gas.

i am always august about-to-start-school hot
one week
baseball almost football almost fair time.
almost enough time.
but not.

  9. oops...sorry about that. Blogger is being a bit of a bully.
    It keeps telling me that my word verification word was typed in wrong, and then, after trying 3 times, they all showed up together!
    hopefully this one will be successful the first time.
