where katie buys her milk is a half hour drive on east texas back roads
and there is no one there when you get there.
there are refrigerators full of milk and cream
and this season's vegetables,
and there is a bulletin board with phone numbers
for fresh blueberries or cream peas
and there are stacks of homemade goat's milk soap
and there is trust.
you take what you need and you drop your money in a box.
you make sure to shut the door when you leave.
the wind will catch it if you don't.
file this under why i live where i live.

and there is trust.
ReplyDeleteit still exists in pockets in this beautiful land. here, many miles north of your sweet, texas life the trust is shown in roadside farm stands with a coffee can and a lid with a slit.
xxoo and love your reflection!
yes! i love those coffee cans! i know them!

there is a farm stand right around the corner from my house, we are waiting for the corn, but it will be late this year. on the next corner is firewood for the campground that is nearby. a little trust goes a long way.
ReplyDeleteand makes you feel like a human being, again, si? not a number.
ReplyDeleteTrust is such a beautiful thing.
ReplyDeleteA place long forgotten ... the place of trust!
ReplyDeletedd - the best. it allows you to breathe.
ReplyDeletemm - yes. and you have just imspired me. :)
i love this post. we never hear of the good you know. only the bad. trust. a thing of the past? perhaps not. more than the trust, i love the signs.
ReplyDeletethis has made my day!

Oh that is simply wonderful in a world such as ours can be. And we know how it can be.
ReplyDeleteThis is a delicious alternative. Trust. I'll have a helping of that!
xoxo
Living the city is not like that, but I do remember a time once upon a time when I lived in Kansas. I would go to the dairy with my gallon jars, fill the jars from a refrigerated tank that came directly from the cows, put my money in a jar, and write in the book how much I took and my name. I have never forgotten that trust and that cream, oh my!
ReplyDeleteI need to know where this place is! I've been looking for a place to buy fresh milk and cream! If you can share I'd love to hear - email me!
ReplyDeleteLoved this post. I remember the coffee cans, too, at the roadside stands. I miss those days...
aint it the truth? no place like it, for surem,,,
ReplyDeleteLove it.... There are little old general stores on back roads here and there in my highlands, and that kind of trust is still in play at them. It makes my heart sing every time I discover one.
ReplyDeleteGeez Louise, I'm impressed!
ReplyDeleteIt does remind us of humanity...
ReplyDeletesuch a good thing.

My favorite is a faded red tool box with a big shiny lock on it. It makes me smile because the tool box is not bolted down. I did a post recently at vision and verb about the faith that the farmer puts in me to pay. Xo
ReplyDeletei've heard of places like this. thank you for reminding me that they exist. i needed that today.
ReplyDeleteblessings,
i love those who trust others to do the right thing....

There's a place outside Whitehouse where you can drop a couple of dollars in a can for blueberries. They are GREAT blueberries, too. :) I love East Texas.
ReplyDeleteyou say it so well .trust .wrapped in the backroads of the everyday..
ReplyDeleteNow that is just wonderful!!!
ReplyDeleteReally, truly.
