“Do you know," Peter asked, "why swallows build in the eaves of houses? It is to listen to the stories.” ~ J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

advent day 12: christmas, dancing in pink jingle shoes

a piece of ribbon hangs from a branch of the emma tree,
the ribbon that once held a star.

ribbon, cellphone, runaway star.
pink photo filter.
if only shopping were this easy.

i remind myself of the time we'd worked triple hard,
no extra time to be found,
no gifts bought till the afternoon of christmas eve,
and all was calm.
we went to one store and found everything we needed
and no crowds.

i remind myself to enjoy these days.
to slow down,
that after midweek i will have more free time.
there is a christmas party thursday night ~
the invitation says cocktails & hors d'oeuvres & rsvp
and it makes me giggle,
makes me feel i am not that much of adult,
makes me feel i need a new pair of shoes.
pink, with bows.

the kind of shoes christmas would wear.
she will be there, you know,
with a jingle in her step.

  1. love! the photo is perfect, there is a whole story right there.
and that is exactly the kind of shoes christmas would wear...but i hope she remembers to pack some boots when she comes up here. :)

  2. Wonderful writing! It dances across my screen :)

  3. christmas will be there. no doubt. i can tell by the softness in your words that you're almost ready for her...

  4. I do hope you find those pink shoes with the bows. Christmas is definitely the time to shine. Have fun!

  5. that's it! all i want under the tree are pink jingle shoes.

  6. bows and lots of glitter. ; ) and skipping. shoes like that require that you skip with vigor.

  7. Simple pictures are the best sometimes. Your post makes me want to dance.

  8. Wonderful. I love reading your posts.

  10. The colors captured in this photo are so vivid. I feel the same way about my teal bow headband. I feel so girly and festive. It makes me smile when I wear it. We all need to own something like that!

  11. Yes. YES! Me, too. I am working, trying... trying to remember to slow down, to savor, to relax. I could. I know I could - if work would just end for Christmas break.

  12. Why do we make this time of year so crazy for ourselves? Does it really have to be this way?
All I can say, is I am so glad I don't have to hit that mall today. In fact, I didn't have to go anywhere near it this year. That is a happy thought.

come. sit under the emma tree & let's talk. i have cookies . . .
