When It's Cold Outside: Jalapenos, Baby

We need a little warmth right about now,
a jalapeno or two,
and did I ever tell you about JY's jalapeno dressing?,
which will wake you up on a Thanksgiving afternoon,
and give you religion
cause you just wanna get down on your knees
and thank the Lord,
never mind JY,
for such food.

See that smoke coming from the smokehouse?,
that smoke that left my clothes and hair
smelling like supper in the outdoors?
Set my mouth to watering.

We are surrounded by these little taquerias
y
taco shops
y
taco stands
y
panaderias full of lovely little gingerbread pigs.

I've been thinking of a series of photos.
I want the mom & pop places,
2 or 3 to a block sometimes,
but they grow fast,
they outgrow their mom & popness,
that's how much we like the food.

The mas.
If you didn't want a taco.
It is cold outside and getting colder.
Green hot sauce will fix you right up.

  1. I've been so busy doing nothing much that I haven't been around to visit my friends in too long. So, though my wishes are late, I mean them with my whole heart. May your year be filled with laughter. May all your surprises be happy ones. May you remember to count your blessings. May you know each day how very much you are loved. Happy new year, my friend.

  8. Oh my word, you make me miss TX so much! We have only one panaderia here, and it's no good. *pout*

Oddly, in Spokane it is Spring weather right now, although after last winter, I am very relieved, so I am pretty warm. I hope you are the jalapenos are keeping you toasty! Single digits are cold even up here.

...The weird thing is, although I have been working on this novel like crazy for a year now, I don't talk about it much on my blog. Even when I do, it's something pretty vague. Hmmm, maybe I should change that. Anyway, it's a very long and complicated retelling of Beauty and the Beast, and I'm very excited about it.

And I can't wait for bluebonnet season! Perhaps I will see you there! =D

  10. We have lots of taco wagons here and I love a good burrito filled with adobada (pork) and topped with salsa verde, especially now in the winter when it warms the hands as well as the belly.

  11. I love mexican food...but I am so not in love with spicy food..bit of a contradiction isn't it? I never understood why someone would want to put something so hot into their mouth that it becomes painful. What's up with that? But guacamole? Pile that stuff on! Mmmm...maybe I will make tacos tonight!
