Satori

Katie's painting.
About 4½ feet square.
Commissioned a couple of years ago.

Full of painted over dreams
&
hearts in the background.

But that ball!
Oh!
It drives people crazy!
Disturbing, they say.
Interesting, they say.
What does it mean? they say.

But oh so perfect for her Pilates studio, I thought.
So agile, so loose,
so open.

But still.
That ball.
So bothersome.

so bothersome :)

  1. funny... i only noticed the ball when you mentioned it.
such a perfect painting... somehow everything seems just the way it's supposed to be... the chair barely holding tohether AND the 'black hole'
and, for some strange reason, douglas adams' hitchhiker's guide to the galaxy (with all the sequels) comes to mind...

    satori?
    who knows...

    (sorry, i ramble a little)

  4. when i looked at the painting, it reminded me of a straw bridge model that i built back in elementary school as part of a science project. believe it or not, the bridge model could withstand the weight of 6 pieces of bricks at the same time. i wouldn't even dream of it if it wasn't for the fact that i was the one who built it.

so, the black ball is the 6 pieces of bricks whereas the chair is the straw bridge. something that might look weak does not mean that it is not strong. that painting give me that feeling.

p/s beautiful piece of art by he way! =)

  5. Can it be that I missed 2 days worth of posts from you??
A very compelling painting, this chair. It really is prefect the way it is.
I'm going to get you a sign that says agonizing on it with the red circle around it with the slash going through it (no agonizing)!

  7. This reminds me of a visit I had with my Mom to an art gallery. I love art and my mother is learning to, because of me. So, we saw this amazing picture of marbles on a kitchen counter melting like scoops of ice cream. Jeffrey and I loved it. My Mom looked and looked at it. Finally, she said with great exasperation, "BUT. Marbles don't melt!"
