“Do you know," Peter asked, "why swallows build in the eaves of houses? It is to listen to the stories.” ~ J.M. Barrie, Peter Pan

A Texas Autumn begins

No red leaves yet.

My at-last welcome to autumn comes on a very rainy day - a very hazy, wet, blue looking day. I consider that a little gift from the Universe to be able to welcome fall with a bit of blue. There was a full moon last night & I stood on a tree stump & took long hand held shaky exposures of the moon, trees, leaves - I made spooky, silly shadows with one arm extended. With that & an October conversation with Robin in mind, I offer these lovely words from Van Morrison. One of my very favorite songs ever. You can listen here.

Well it's a marvelous night for a moondance
With the stars up above in your eyes
A fantabulous night to make romance
'Neath the cover of October skies
And all the leaves on the trees are falling
To the sound of the breezes that blow
And I'm trying to please to the calling
Of your heart-strings that play soft and low
You know the night's magic
Seems to whisper and hush
And all the soft moonlight
Seems to shine in your blush...

  1. I LOVE that song! Just seeing the words here makes me start singing it in my mind.

Or maybe I just want Van Morrison to sing it to me?

    Lovely lovely photo.

  2. I also love that song. And I love your description and the photo - all together they sing together and dance around my heart.

  3. Tango - I think Van should sing it to BOTH of us. I'm older than you & this was very big when I was a senior in high school. I remember listening to it on graduation night. It has a lot of great memories tied in with it - I can remember the dress I was wearing, where I was standing at the school, waiting for the big event to begin, who I was talking to - Tim O'Connor - as we listened to this.

Hele - We need a Moondance Blog party so we can ALL dance around each other's hearts. :)

Sukhada - Welcome! And many many thanks for the kind words!

  5. Polona - Not my favorite season either. I am trying to teach myself to appreciate all that each season has to offer. I still have a way to go. LOL!

  6. If I tell you what the most memorable song was at my prom, you will laugh. So I think Van should sing the song to you, and I'll stand along the sidelines and get all teary-eyed and be happy for you.

  7. OH God. Was it a disco song? Please say no.

  8. No. But disco probably would have been better. I like disco.

  9. Oh, me too! Me too! What song is better than Moondance? Of course, I can't claim it for my graduation memory. Oh no. We listened to Friends by Michael W. Smith. I'll take Moondance any day!!

Maybe I can join TB on the sidelines and smile for you as Van offers a serenade. Of course, I am dying to know TBs song!!

  10. when i saw that photo pop up on the screen my mouth was open and smiling slightly all at the same time. oh and i think i made a little sound like... oh! just s little one. this is a very luxurious image. it speaks wet but in fact it doesn't seem to have an actual drop of water showing... i see a little girl with a pony tial dancing on the end of that branch on the right. can you see that? i swear she is doin' the moon dance,

"I always thought it was the color of October skies"

huh you mean color instead of cover ... learn something new every day doncha?

  11. I'm right there with Robin BIrd. What a lucsious image! Is that a wisteria vine in the foreground?
And the "Moondance" cong brought back a flodd of memories. My freind, Shira Greenberg who founded a dance company in Albuquerque called, Keshet" does a modern dance version of "Nutcracker", but instead of classical, it is modernized to rock n' roll music. Anyway, one of the pieces of music in her production is, "Moondance".

  12. Relyn - I don't even know that song Friends! You must be much younger than me! :)

Robin - I did see that little girl hanging there & I did always think it was the color of October skies, and in fact, I think it should be the color of October skies. Not that I would ever argue with Mr. Morrison about this song or anything!

Paula - It's early morning, and I'm trying to remember just exactly where I took this picture. I think that is a wisteria vine, actually. Good eye!

    :) Love, Debi
